WHERE TO SLEEP, WHAT TO EAT
Tourists in Carro have the possibility of staying in various farmstays, some of which offer different experiences such as educational farm visits for children. Those who prefer B&B solutions can choose between houses surrounded by greenery, flats in the historic centre with a view of the valley, or in old buildings that have retained the charm of bygone days.
In the restaurants of Carro, Castello and Ponte Santa Margherita, visitors can enjoy typical Ligurian cuisine, linked to the products of the territory and their seasonality, such as ravioli stuffed with ‘prebuggiun’ and seasoned with ‘tuccu’, a meat sauce cooked according to the recipe that Niccolò Paganini himself mentioned in 1840 and which is now preserved in the Library of Congress in Washington.
Among the many local specialities, dishes which are not to be missed include pesto, walnut sauce, minestrone, tagliatelle made from chestnut flour, polenta and mushrooms, especially porcini from the Val di Vara, which accompany farmed or game meat. To end a meal in Carro on a high, let yourself be delighted by the array of desserts, including the famous Ciambellone di Carro, the castagnaccio and tarts prepared with local fruit jams, and why not try the various local liqueurs and digestives prepared with local herbs.
Agriturismo Ca du Chittu
In a dedicated area there is a small campsite with shaded pitches, and studios and family flats have been created in the old stables. There is also a restaurant where you can enjoy traditional Ligurian dishes prepared with produce from the garden. There is no shortage of animals and it is a place where children can discover nature in peace and quiet or go for a dip in the pool. It is an ideal place for those who want to combine nature and excursions to the Cinque Terre or cultural visits to Val di Vara and nearby cities of art. The owners are Dutch and lived in Amsterdam before taking over the farm in 2019, where they moved to live with their two children.
